Behind the heavy curtains in an old theatre, the fabulous Diva prepares for this evening’s performance. Every night, when the curtain opens, her audience is enchanted by her beautiful, wistful song. On this fatal evening however, the show does not go to plan. Featuring a lovesick butler, a mischievous lab assistant and a beyond-mad scientist.
Audience members are lured into the mystery within the cabaret walls as each character endures an ill-fated night that may well be its last. Diva is an almost wordless performance - in a rotating animation theatre. Behind an inferno of 7 scenes of action and 21 curtains everything can be moved, opened, shut, and hoisted up or down. Small light systems, music, sound effects,cartoon comics, and tricky dexterity create a highly tensioned drama in a unique and magical universe.
Director’s Note: DIVA is a tour de force of manual dexterity that features the talented puppeteer Sofie Krog manipulating all of the action on multiple stages simultaneously from inside a small revolving theatre. The comic plot line is in the best tradition of Monty Python and this is a must for those who enjoy a dark and surreal comedy.
